Well, it took some deliberation, but here are the top winners for May. We were impressed and amazed with all of the submissions, so this wasn't an easy decision. Our congratulations go out to all contestants.
First Place - "Pelican With An Attitude" - Olga
I took this picture in our backyard garden area on Oct. 16, 2009. This family of mice (mom and two little ones), were living in the wood railroad tie retaining wall at one end of our garden. They were curious about me and my camera, so the three of them were standing on each other peeking out from between two sections to get a closer look.

Who knew Florida could be this cold? The wind out at the end of St. Petersburg pier on the morning of December 29 last year was positively icy. This poor guy wasn't any happier about it than we were. He was huddled on the piling in the middle of what I immediately christened Pelican Bay. I got within ten feet of him that he decided that was plenty close enough, thank you, & sprang into action. Perhaps he thought I would offer him a fish. Later, we came across him again, hanging out with some friends at a little stand labelled "Pelican Food for Sale".
Second Place - "Fishing off Boynton Beach FL" - Christine
Third Place - "Purple Tulip" - Mark R. Yeatts - Twitter @mryeatts
